How to Win Over Corporate Buyers

What do successful suppliers have in common? We have collected insights from corporate buyers across the MSDUK network and reveal the approaches that can help businesses build stronger relationships and unlock new opportunities.

Through our conversations with corporate and public sector members across the MSDUK network, several common themes consistently emerge when it comes to supplier selection. While every organisation has its own procurement process and priorities, buyers repeatedly highlight the same factors that help suppliers stand out and secure contract opportunities.

Understand buyer’s business

First and foremost, buyers want suppliers to understand their business. Before making an approach, take the time to research the organisation and identify the problem they are trying to solve. Suppliers who demonstrate a clear understanding of a buyer’s challenges and objectives are far more likely to make a lasting impression.

Evidence your credibility

Credibility is equally important. Relevant certifications, accreditations and industry standards can help reassure buyers that your business has the capability, governance and expertise needed to deliver. However, credentials alone are not enough. Buyers also want to see evidence. Whether it is through case studies, customer references, measurable results or testimonials, being able to substantiate your claims can significantly strengthen your proposition.

Partner for success

For smaller businesses, collaboration can also be a winning strategy. Many corporate buyers are looking for suppliers that can meet a broad range of requirements, and partnering with other complementary businesses can help create a stronger, more comprehensive offering.

Maintain a strong profile

Maintaining a strong supplier profile is another simple but often overlooked step. Buyers frequently use supplier databases and portals to identify potential partners, so it is essential that your MSDUK supplier profile is accurate, complete and up to date. A quarterly review can help ensure you are presenting the best possible version of your business.

Foster relationships

Relationships matter too. Building connections with buyers and other organisations within the ecosystem can help you better understand procurement priorities, gain visibility and uncover future opportunities. The most successful suppliers are often those that engage consistently rather than only when a tender is released.

Go beyond the brief

Finally, buyers appreciate suppliers who go beyond the brief. Rather than simply responding to requirements, think about how you can add value, provide new ideas or offer completely innovative solutions. Do you offer pilots to prove the value of working together? Have you seen site level/local opportunities? Do you offer bespoke solutions?

Know and articulate your value

Above all, make it easy for a buyer to say ‘yes’ by clearly communicating your value, evidencing your capabilities and demonstrating how you can help them achieve their goals.

By focusing on these areas, suppliers can improve their visibility, strengthen their credibility and increase their chances of winning contracts with corporate organisations.
