For some organisations, timely transportation of parts is critical. For example, when you’re an aircraft builder waiting for a crucial part, time is money, and hours ticking by can cost hundreds or even thousands of pounds.
With a background in aerospace, Speedel was born out of the regular frustrations of being able to find a reliable transport or courier company to move time-critical parts. Speedel’s founder, Shiraz Sidat, noticed a gap in the market for such a service. Growing tired of a long commute, in 2017, Shiraz decided to move forward with the idea, and to deliver the service with a usp, as Shiraz explains:
“Unlike other courier companies, we only ever carry one shipment per vehicle. That means we can offer the fastest possible delivery times and the highest levels of service. Our unique approach is centred around removing the details that can cause delays and solving the common issues that can arise. With us, the only variable is traffic, and your ETA is always the 60-minute collection time + the journey time to the destination. The way it should be.”
Speedel was founded in 2017, and the business was doing great. However, in 2020 Shiraz heard about MSDUK from someone at the Leicester University Innovation Hub and decided to sign up.
“As a business in the scale-up stage, I signed up for MSDUK’s Accelerator program. It was brilliant. We were a bit further on in our journey than others in the cohort, as we were in our 4th year. It presented an excellent opportunity to go back to the beginning and fill in any gaps, such as company structure and processes. It was useful to listen to other businesses and entrepreneurs and learn from their experiences. We also took the time to build a future road map, so we know where we are headed moving forward.”
“Our mentors are so helpful, even today. We defined our sales messaging and looked at what, why and how we are doing things, as well as who our target audience is. As a result, our sales campaigns are much more effective. Today, our mentors are helping us with technical and software development going forward.
“The largest benefit of joining MSDUK is the platform which has given us visibility. MSDUK has opened the door to key decision-makers, which would otherwise take a very long time to do. They have given us the opportunity to tender and be a possible supplier to corporate companies right across the UK.”
“The corporate contracts we have won have transformed our business and substantially added to our overall revenue. This year’s cherry on the cake was the MSDUK Conference, which was an incredible and professional event.”
“I would say you have to be in it for the long game. It’s about building connections and refining everything you do. The MSDUK Team are all very helpful and supportive and really want you to succeed. They are always at the end of the phone and available to help where they can. Whether you’re a start-up or a scale-up, sign up.”
