Something Co came about because of a personal need to combat the amount of waste my family produced. My young sons were always “experimenting”, and it was after one of their over-the-top experiments of flushing whole loo rolls down the toilet that I started researching toilet paper. I soon discovered that we were cutting down 27,000 trees to make toilet paper!
Additionally, all the single-use plastic packaging from the rolls added to my plastic anxiety! I felt there had to be a better way to produce our everyday essentials. Something Co was born with a desire to find sustainable alternative resources to our everyday essentials eliminating single-use plastic packaging. We also want to make boring products fun, so our existing two products are Something Cheeky toilet paper and Something Strong Kitchen Paper towel, both made from 100% bamboo, a renewable resource. We now have hundreds of loyal customers each month.
We heard about the MSDUK Accelerator Programme from a female founder in a co-working space I sometimes use and sent in our application. The benefits have been our mentor’s sales and marketing experience. This has been invaluable. Our mentor challenged us and helped us become investment-ready – helping us craft our stories and experiences in angles I had previously not considered
As a business on a journey as CEO, I found that MSDUK’s Accelerator programme allowed me to review our existing processes and our future plans. In addition, our cohort’s diverse experience gave us insight into other business models and learnings about the different stages of our business.
The Accelerator Programme has been brilliant, and we came away much wiser and confident of our business plans moving forward regarding how to market and pitch our business.
One key benefit of our MSDUK membership is the connections. It has helped us open up conversations with people and doors to corporates we would have otherwise not been aware of. MSDUK is helping us run a pilot programme with corporates to help us make roads to the corporate market in the future.
MSDUK’s support with navigating large corporations has been tremendous, and we now understand how to work with larger corporates, their sometimes lengthy procurement processes and the patience needed.
MSDUK’s input has made us realise that we can potentially take our brand further than we thought and deliver an expanded range of sustainable, 100% eco products.
Another great lesson was that MSDUK gave us reassurance and confidence in our actions. That our products are what the market needs and that we are where we should be. MSDUK has given us the growth marketing strategies to reap the long-term benefits for our business.
I would say sign up and become an MSDUK member. Access to the knowledge, experience and learning from the other members in your cohort is invaluable as a scale-up business. Also, the mentor support has been brilliant for reviewing where we are and then steering us in the right direction for where we want to be.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend MSDUK membership for any scale-up business; it will help you plan a prosperous future for your business.
