Bloomful: Platform for Women’s Empowerment

Dupe Burgess is the Founder and CEO of Bloomful, a UK-based healthcare startup exclusively designed for women seeking accessible gynaecological care. Under Dupe’s leadership, Bloomful is developing an innovative gynaecological healthcare app utilising Artificial Intelligence (AI) and conditional logic. This groundbreaking app empowers women to self-triage their symptoms and receive a pre-diagnosis or a list of diagnoses. The platform seamlessly guides users through the entire journey of diagnosis and management, addressing women’s health conditions comprehensively.

Bloomful aims to solve the problem around complex, chaotic and disorganised journeys that women must go through to get the care they need, specifically around chronic pelvic conditions. This includes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis, which are both receiving increased attention and are conditions that have, historically taken a long time to diagnose.

Innovation Challenge: An Unforgettable Experience

Reflecting on the Innovation Challenge, Dupe shares, “participating in the Innovation Challenge Finals was an unforgettable experience. The friendly and supportive team provided invaluable guidance throughout the process”. Dupe highlights the joy of standing on stage and presenting her business, and the surprise of being crowned both a category winner and the overall winner, which has marked a pivotal moment in Bloomful’s journey. This recognition affirmed the worthiness of Bloomful’s endeavours and resonated with the core problem they are solving.

In addition, Dupe expresses gratitude for the connections made during the event, emphasising the significance of these connections for a small and growing business such as Bloomful. “Many people, from corporate organisations to other ethnic minority founders, were interested in learning more about Bloomful and what we do, which was amazing to see and experience”.

Award-Winning Organisation

As the overall winner, Dupe recounts, “It felt amazing to be crowned the overall winner at the Innovation Challenge Finals; the entire experience, from start to finish, was exceptionally well-organised”. The prize money of £20,000 was used to hire an engineer and build the next version of their product. Dupe acknowledges that this win has propelled their business forward, enabling them to achieve their goals faster.

Beyond the cash prize, Bloomful seized opportunities for collaboration, such as an out-of-home advertising campaign with JCDecaux and one-to-one mentoring with Accenture. Dupe expresses excitement about the upcoming campaign and mentoring sessions, recognising its pivotal role in boosting brand visibility and expansion. “The collaboration with JCDecaux has already begun, with discussions initiated. Since we operate directly with consumers, building consumer trust and developing our brand is crucial because that helps us develop relationships with women using our product”.

She adds, “Accenture mentoring is invaluable with numerous commercialisation models and markets in consideration; having consulting and strategy expertise will aid us in developing a cohesive strategy and roadmap. This assistance will consolidate our thinking, enabling us to create a meaningful roadmap for our business”.

Looking Ahead – Women-Centric Healthcare

Dupe outlines the future goals for Bloomful: “Our goal is to build a product that is effective in providing streamlined access to care for women’s gynaecological health needs. Being part of the Innovation Challenge has propelled us forward in public relations, investments, connecting with Venture Capital funds, and building a top-notch team, which has been great for our business.“.

Dupe Extends Her Entrepreneurial Advice to Other Participants.

Dupe advices other businesses who want to take part in the Innovation Challenge “You get to meet some amazing people, it’s a great experience pitching in that capacity, and you just never know what’s going to come out of it.” She emphasises, “The MSDUK community is important for the wider business space, giving a platform for minority businesses to get exposure is important for closing gaps in society and helping people that have amazing businesses. She adds “What MSDUK is doing is admirable, I’m so happy to be part of that family and excited to see what my MSDUK membership brings over the next year”.

“Without MSDUK it would probably be a lot harder in terms of business-to-business sales functions because MSDUK gave us access to get our first client, Enterprise Rent-a-Car and from there we were able to snowball.”
