European Supplier Diversity Conference 2017 in Berlin
Mayank Shah, the CEO and Founder of MSDUK, opened the event by giving the audience some background about MSDUK and its 11-year journey so far. More importantly, he set the scene by talking about the importance of Supplier Diversity and Inclusive Procurement and how innovation has also become one of the main vehicles in driving diversity forward. He then introduced Cemile Giousouf, former Integration Commissioner of the CDU Party, who started by saying “although many global companies already implement supplier diversity programs – Germany still needs to catch up.” Cemile continued her speech discussing the economic importance of migrant-run businesses in Germany and how the country needed to develop advisory services catered specially for migrants.

In the Spotlight: Ross Mandiwall, Head of Procurement at IBM discusses Supplier Diversity & MSDUK
Ross Mandiwall is an 18-year long-term procurement professional with IBM, having worked his way through business transformation and as category lead for contingent labour. He’s now IBM’s Head of Procurement for United Kingdom and Ireland. “IBM has a long history of supporting social issues globally and was one of the first businesses to have a supplier diversity programme, starting in the US in 1968 and becoming global in 2010. We spend some $2.6 billion annually with diverse suppliers now and were a founding member of MSDUK 10 years ago. I took on the lead role here 4 years ago, and it has been a fascinating time. We’ve seen MSDUK grow and adapt in that time, becoming a real eco-system for minority-owned suppliers, moving well beyond the initial “dating agency” vision”, he says.
