SAVORTEX team up with Intel to launch the adDryer, world’s first smart hand dryer for the corporate washroom sector

SAVORTEX, the multi-award winning hand drying technology manufacturer, has teamed up with Intel to launch the adDryer, the world’s first smart and revenue share producing hand dryer for the corporate washroom sector. It follows successful trials at Heathrow Airport, Cummins and the British Library, and the recent announcement of SAVORTEX as a Successful Innovator by the American Fortune 500 corporation Cummins, as part of its Environmental Gateway programme.

The adDryer is an IoT-enabled smart dryer which includes a digital screen that can deliver tailored, high-definition video messages to users, which can be used for internal marketing or as an additional revenue stream.By working with the building owner, SAVORTEX can create an audience value of the estate based on the users of the building, for example gender, age and occupation. The company’s media buyers can then use this information to set and agree a cost per view rate that will be paid to the building owner each time someone uses an adDryer and sees an advert, thus creating revenue.

Built on Intel technology, the adDryer also alerts cleaners to washroom needs based on actual footfallallowing companies to transform wasteful and costly commercial washrooms into connected, hygienic, and sustainable revenue-producing assets.

Martin McCourt, former CEO at Dyson, said:“It is fantastic to see a British company leading the way in technological innovation. SAVORTEX is a forward thinking and dynamic company with a product range that will revolutionise the washroom sector. I was instantly impressed with the adDryer and look forward to seeing what they do next.”

Syed Ahmed, Managing Director at SAVORTEX said: The aim of the EcoCurve range is to disrupt the washroom sector.  With a focus on smart connected devices, providing data and insights for operators, it is unique in the market. The adDryer allows companies to transform wasteful and costly commercial washrooms into connected, hygienic, and sustainable revenue-producing assets. This revolutionary product that will help businesses reduce costs and boost revenue.”

Rod O’Shea, EMEA IoT Group Director, at Intel UK, said: “This is Intel’s first foray into the hand drying sector. It is a great opportunity to demonstrate how with smart building management and connected devices, enterprises can use data to drive additional revenue streams while reducing operational costs and saving energy. We are proud to work with SAVORTEX, co-developing a product which we can bring to market to drive great customer experiences.”

Global Diversity Practice (GDP) CEO Farrah Qureshi has been shortlisted for a prestigious Asian Women of Achievement Award being announced on 10 May 2017. Farrah is in contention in the entrepreneur of the year category. Other finalists include the founder of Fitzrovia based eatery, Maple & Co, and financial services specialist Cebile Capital.

The Asian Women of Achievement Awards were established by Pinky Lilani, who was appointed as Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2015 for services to women in business.

This is the second business accolade for the Bradford born and bred businesswoman who was also recently listed as one of 50 Northern Power Women Power 50 list together with Helena Morrissey and Cherie Blair.

Farrah Qureshi launched GDP from her home in Nab Wood in 2009 following a deal brokered with her previous employer Norman Broadbent, one of the world’s top executive search and leadership firms. Farrah began to build up the business from zero clients, no income and no employees while the UK and the rest of the world were still reeling from the shockwaves of the global credit crunch and banking crisis.

Eight years later, having taken the diversity message to almost 70 businesses in over 140 countries, the business is going from strength to strength. Farrah has recently established a base in offices at the University of Bradford, expanding the core team by recruiting talent from across Yorkshire with a commitment to creating opportunities for underrepresented local talent to the world of diversity consultancy and learning. This is supported by a global network of trainers and consultants operating across major business markets.

The company’s customer base embraces almost every sector, and features many of the world’s top businesses and brands, including Kellogg’s, Coca-Cola Enterprises, The London Stock Exchange, Aviva, World Bank, Dell, Microsoft, Santander, Unilever and Walmart.

GDP’s size and location has never affected its ability to win world class and “once in a lifetime” projects. For example, being commissioned to deliver all the diversity and inclusion training and consultancy for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Commenting on the shortlist, CEO Farrah Qureshi said, “I always felt that it was the right move to take GDP out of central London location and to bring it to my home city of Bradford.  I wanted to make it successful at the same time as manage my personal roles, relationships and obligations as a daughter, a wife and a mum. There would be days when I would be competing with the world’s largest consulting firms while working from my home in Nab Wood. To me this proves the message which I was preaching which is that talent really can come from anywhere.

“I’ve always believed that I could get people to see that being inclusive and respecting diversity is a better and more successful way for all of us to live. I think this has been the core of my success, much more important than size or location.

“A lot of what I do starts with training but ends up becoming a top down and bottom up change process. This is where businesses realize that respecting what makes us different delivers a much better result, in fact an outstanding result, compared to the norm, which is where employees are effectively asked to leave their diversity at their door and conform.

“This award is so important to everyone involved in GDP because it shows that a great business doesn’t have to sit in a corporate office or be restricted in the way it can impact and spread its message successfully. I am seeking to redefine the essence of doing business in this globalized economy where your talent, endeavor and authenticity can and does get you ahead. Success isn’t just about profile and turnover, it’s about how you can change people’s lives and influence companies to utilize their voice to do the same.”

The winners of the Asian Women of Achievement Awards 2017 will be named at a special ceremony on 10th May.

Congratulations to to Farrah on her nominations- we wish her the best of luck!

tuck business school

“Minority entrepreneurs across the USA, UK, Africa and Canada play a critical role in nation building- creating millions of jobs, sustaining local communities and creating wealth in some of the most deprived regions within their countries. One thing that binds all minority entrepreneurs together is their ‘will to succeed’ and desire to ‘dream’.

The week I spent at Tuck Business School, attending the Building a High-Performing Minority Business Program, showed me how the program helped over 50 young entrepreneurs give shape to their ‘dreams’ and achieve ‘greater success’. I attended this program with an additional mission – to get a first-hand understanding of the structure and delivery of the program as we @ MSDUK work on bringing this program to the UK, in partnership with a business school in the UK, and work with Tuck in this unique cross-Atlantic experiment of knowledge-transfer.

What made this program differ from any Executive Management Program was that it wasn’t ‘text book’

It is so hard to summarise the quality of this programme in a few words! Everything from the hospitality, organization, program structure, content, relevance to actual delivery of the program was just OUTSTANDING but what made this program ‘WORLD CLASS’ is that it was designed around the real needs of ‘minority’ entrepreneurs. What made this program differ from any Executive Management Program was that it wasn’t ‘text book’ – I didn’t see any ‘business models’ being taught during a very intense and busy week; what I saw was this unique style of ‘learning from real life business experiences’.

Prof Len Greenhalgh understands the needs of minority entrepreneurs like no one else! I am sure one day I will be able to get this Englishmen back to England to deliver program for British minority entrepreneurs! Since the last 40 years, he is on a mission- to see minority entrepreneurs in the US succeed and scale-up. He has assembled an outstanding line up of world class academics to deliver this program that is designed specifically for minority entrepreneurs.

Over 50 entrepreneurs that attended this program became one big family

What adds value to this program is the comradery between entrepreneurs attending this program. Over 50 entrepreneurs that attended this program became one big family- they shared their successes, their failures and their ideas not only to help themselves but to help others.

I would personally like to thank Dr Fred McKinney, Jade Melvin, and Christine Dowman for making us all feel at home. My gratitude to all the academics- Prof Len Greenhalgh, Ella Bell, Joseph Hall, Philip Stocken, Alva Taylor and Gail Taylor for such an incredible week of imparting knowledge. A big thanks to Frank Venegas, Jr. Chairman and CEO of the Ideal Group of Companies, Detroit who gave us an inspiring talk on importance of community in every entrepreneur’s journey! Lastly, I would like to recognise the invaluable contribution of so many global corporations, including GM, Bristol-Myers Squibb, for providing scholarships to minority entrepreneurs to attend these programs.

I can’t wait to be at Tuck again in the summer for the Scale-up program! “

(L) Denise Nurse, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Halebury (R) Janvi Patel, Chairwoman and co-founder of Halebury.

“I challenge you to ask first not what MSDUK can do for you but what you can do for MSDUK, and then watch your opportunities and business grow.”- Denise Nurse

After 10 years of Meet The Buyers with MSDUK, Halebury CEO Denise Nurse shares how being a part of the MSDUK network has aided success and opportunity to build and develop their law firm into a NewLaw pioneer.

About Halebury

Denise Nurse is Co-Founder and CEO of NewLaw firm Halebury. Halebury has strategic partnerships with clients such at BT, Sky and Virgin Media, a growing roster of clients in the TMT and FS sectors and a team of more than 30 senior in-house lawyers providing flexible resourcing solutions and strategic, legal transformation support to FTSE 250 and SME businesses.

We have done over a £1 million pounds worth of business with MSDUK members

We have been members of MSDUK since 2008.  As a start up business at the time, we recognised the value of the network and the opportunities it presented to get in front of and form relationships with FTSE 100 and international businesses.  Our approach to membership has always been to be as involved as we can and to add value.  Like anything it is a two way street, what we look to gain from being part of the organisation we must also give back.

In addition to attending the Meet the Buyer events that were put on in the early days, my co-founder,  Janvi Patel, and I always sought additional ways to work with the MSDUK team and add value, as such we have over the years, advised the Board directly on legal matters, presented on legal areas of concern such as intellectual property at events, worked with and instructed other suppliers (eg for design services) and suggested ideas for new ways for us to add value and create relationships with the MSDUK corporate members.

By being so fully engaged with MSDUK we have benefitted by getting business with four corporates, two of whom we have achieved being listed on their official supplier panel.  We have done over a £1 million pounds worth of business with MSDUK members and also worked with fellow suppliers to help develop our business.

Today we are still avid supporters, and I am proud to have a seat on the first Executive Committee of Suppliers representing the Supplier voice to MSDUK.

Successes Stories

Looking for most effective way to provide supplemental legal resource to support their large legal team with absences such as maternity leaves and with complex project work.  They needed lawyers with a specific skill set, including experience of major, global transactions, public and private sector procurement experience, maximum security clearance and in depth telecoms industry experience.  Available on an agile basis, able to hit the ground running, add value to their commercial teams and to fit seamlessly as part of the BT legal team.  To be able to work with BT you needed to be on their official panel and go through the Request for Proposal and tender process.

We spent two years building up our contacts and relationship with BT so that when they were ready to launch the panel process we were on their radar to be included in the bid.  This included following up with our own contacts but crucially from MSDUK we worked with Mayank to put on a specific event for the procurement teams and legal heads from the corporate members.  Our legal service proposition represented a new way of providing legal services and was part of a sea of changes taking place.  We worked with MSDUK and other law firms within the membership to present a session dedicated to educating the procurement teams on the changes and what they meant for their in-house legal teams.  By providing this free service to the corporate members we helped them to understand the offering.  BT followed up by setting up a meeting between us and their head of legal operations at the time.  The rest as they say is history.  It took us another year to get to know the legal team, their challenges and ways of working and when the RFP process finally took place in 2013 we successfully bid to become a part of that panel.

We have worked as a trusted partner with BT ever since, supplying high quality, senior lawyers to work with their teams across the corporate and commercial spectrum on major transactions, procurement projects and innovation.

Enterprise Rent-a-Car

We have worked with Enterprise since 2008.  From our work with MSDUK and attendance at meet the buyer events we were invited by the then CFO Daryl Scales, to come into their office and present our offering to the procurement and commercial leads who dealt with their commercial matters and also their Head of HR who dealt with all employment law matters.

At the time, Enterprise did not have any in-house lawyers.  Halebury was instructed to work with their commercial lead to provide guidance on complex legal matters and overflow work.

We assisted the team on a variety of urgent, intricate and high profile legal queries.  As the relationship developed, a member of the Halebury team supported Enterprise on a more fixed basis working from their office two days a week helping to shape and support the legal function.  Our team member eventually helped them to hire their first full time legal employee, a contracts manager.  This was a successful move and they went on to build a team of legal assistants with on going support from Halebury.  This culminated in the appointment of their first UK General counsel, a dynamic and business focussed lawyer known to Halebury who is growing the depth and capability of the inhouse legal function at Enterprise.  We believe we helped to demonstrate the value of in-house legal to the business and to lay the foundations for their own legal team which is part of the Halebury way, to leave our clients in a better position than when we started.

A large accountancy and professional services practice and a global bank

Halebury has provided legal services to these two clients for a number of years.  The former requires specific, high quality service in relation to procurement contracts, the bank requires flexible legal services to complement it’s large team of in-house lawyers.

We were successful in completing the panel process for the Bank and are officially on their panel.

Denise’s 7 Top Tips- How to win business from large corporates

  • Build relationships
  • Add Value
  • Prove your credibility
  • Take the long view
  • Be patient
  • Get creative
  • Over deliver

Putting people first and always challenging the status quo is what we do best at Halebury.  By focussing on these core principles we build relationships, add value and over deliver and working with MSDUK has given us the opportunity to get to know other businesses and build lasting partnerships.

The idea of MSDUK is to create opportunities for Ethnic Minority Businesses.  Mayank and the team have ultimate faith in the quality of our offerings and our ability to make a significant contribution to British business today.  It is up to us to live up to that challenge and use the network to create new business, learn, teach and support each other.

Each success in the team creates another rung on the ladder to help the next business up.  There is power and energy in our network and the more you put in the more you will get out.  If you are looking to grow your business working with MSDUK, I challenge you to ask first not what MSDUK can do for you but what you can do for MSDUK, and then watch your opportunities and business grow.

Allen Lyman transform offices with new furniture for Agile-1

PicMonkey Collage

Allen Lyman has been successful in winning an order for the supply and installation of office furniture to Agile-1, a corporate partner of MSDUK.

Ricky Patel, Director of Allen Lyman said the following about his company’s latest opportunity:

The opportunity arose through an introduction by Mayank Shah to Oz Kemal of Agile-1.

Oz and I had an initial conversation to ascertain their requirements and also the ranges of furniture that they preferred. We were then provided with a CAD drawing of the floor plan of their new premises from which we started putting together an initial quote.

We then made some revisions along the way and finalised fabric colours and wood finishes. Once the order was placed, we provided Agile-1 with the proposed installation date. Once the furniture was produced, our team delivered and installed the furniture.

We hope Agile-1 enjoys their new office environment.

CA Support Services sweep up 21 Enterprise branches with latest cleaning tender

CA Support_BC_85-55 - David Thomas - front v2

CA Support Services have recently reaped the benefits of retaining their MSDUK membership after an attendance to one of our recent Meet The Buyer events opened up a business opportunity 10 years in the making.

Michael Pritchett, Managing Director of CA Support, said the following about his company’s latest opportunity:

“We have been a member and attending MSDUK events for many years and have struck up a good rapport with Enterprise during this time.  We were approached by Enterprise Rent a Car ten years ago to do a tender for Enterprise West  Midlands area. Unfortunately, we were not awarded the contract at the time.

We carried on with our relationship and after meeting Matthew Glass, we are were asked to tender for the South East and London  region of Enterprise branches. The tender was for cleaning all the branches in London and the South East. We were initially given 10 branches as a trial in July 2016. This went extremely well and we have been getting excellent feedback from the branches.

As this has gone so well, we have just been awarded another 11 branches and the plan is to roll out the other 85 branches over the coming year. We have found Enterprise an excellent company to work for and we are delighted with the programme and working partnership.

We look forward to future works with Enterprise and a long and  fruitful partnership. ”

Congratulations to CA Support for winning this tender, and for their hard work and perseverance within the network!
